BDO USA

BDO is an international accounting company with
multiple services. BDO USA has common goals as a global entity
and some uniqueness that need to be reflected in their new website.

The Goal

The Goal

The Goal

Platform upgrade and redesign the entire website to modernize the look according to BDO Brand. We focus on bringing user-centric designs, personalizing the experience, showing them as thought leadership to generate more conversions, and creating intuitive navigation across the site that works for the complexity of services.

My Role

The Goal

The Goal

As part of Diff Agency, I'm a Sr UX Designer. I led the UX side of the project in front of BDO USA Clients, mentoring UX junior designers and collaborating closely with visual designers for an easy handoff to the developers.

I created a competitive analysis, user journey,  persona workshop, IA, 37 wireframes, tree test, first click unmoderated usability testing, and two rounds of moderated usability testing.

ACCOUNTABILITIES

  • BDO USA and BDO Canada were designed in parallel. While both institutions follow the same branding, I need to make sure the navigation and functionality elements where consistent and flexible enough to worked for both entities with their own different set of services.
  • Creating compelling wireframes and user flows while mentoring a junior UX designer in the team. Accountable for delivering the wireframes on time for client development.
  • Produced prototype to document the functionality, user flows, and necessary documentation when needed for the developers.
  • Collaborated closely with the Project Manager to ensure the scope reflected the hours projected for me and my junior UX.
  • Work closely with Visual Designers so the wires, and UX thinking are reflected on the final mockups.

USABILITY TESTING

BDO Canada and BDO USA overlap in information, and we created a set of usability testing for both clients. This situation allowed the clients to receive more information about their projects. Specifically, BDO USA performed a First Click, A/B Tree Test, and Moderate Usability Testing.

  1. First Click: The goal of the first click was to assess the findability of specific content and discover unforeseen issues with the new user experience.
    1. It was a remote unmoderated first-click testing using the optimalworkshop.com platform and its recruitment panel.
    2. Analyzed over 70 participants' tests and provided recommendations for the new findings.
  2. A/B Tree Test:  The goal of the A/B Tree Test was to assess the findability and discoverability of specific nodes within the two proposed Information Architectures and test labels for navigation.
    1. We performed two unmoderated tree tests (A & B) using optimalworkshop.com platform and its recruitment panel.
    2. Analyzed the two tests with 50 participants each and provided recommendations for the new findings.
  3. Moderated Usability Testing: The usability testing aimed to test the comprehension of the BDO Strategy, explore similitudes and differences in specific categories, and assess the findability and discoverability of certain content within the experience.
    1. The test was facilitated remotely by Akendi and using the UserZoomGo user test platform.
    2. Created the testing plan, oversaw the prototype, and made recommendations of the findings provided by Akendi.

LEARNING AND TAKEAWAYS

  1. Mentoring: While it was not my first time mentoring, it was my first time working side to side to mentor a Junior UX, while ensuring we met our deadlines. My key takeaways are; listening is vital, letting the mentee develop critical thinking, and giving them clues but not answers. I love seeing designers create different solutions and determine the best work for the project.
  2. Usability testing is hard to sell to clients and is undervalued sometimes. It was beneficial to the project to perform the different types of testing, so we evaluated and refined the designs before we went live. In this manner, our project is set up for success.
  3. Close relationship with the client. During the project, one crucial piece in the puzzle was the constant communication with the client, recurring syncing, regular wireframe presentations, and set on place a feedback process that helped to move the project with momentum
